Research Centre for Computing, Science and Engineering [De Montfort University Leicester]

"The Faculty brings together the Schools of Computing and of Engineering and Technology, both of which have an international standing and were commended with 4-star ratings in the 2001 Research Assessment Exercise (RAE). Computing Sciences and Engineering at the University is a diverse, exciting and hugely interdisciplinary area of study. Strong links with commerce ensure research is geared towards real-life challenges, and projects cover subjects as diverse as medical diagnostics, robotics, satellite mapping, home security, 3D television, aircraft manufacturing and safety, mobile communication and alternative energy. The Faculty consists of two schools: The School of Engineering and Technology focuses on micro/electronics, imaging technologies, communications, water software, mechatronics, mechanical engineering and manufacture, whilst the School of Computing is concerned with research surrounding computational intelligence, interactive media, software technology, satellite remote sensing and Computing Social Responsibility. Computing and Engineering technologies influence all aspects of modern life, which is why CSE are actively involved in a number of important cross-faculty research endeavours, such as the Institute of Creative Technologies. The School of Computing also has a number of Special Interest Groups (SIGs), which act as a catalyst for interdisciplinary research. These include the Entertainment Computing SIG, the Forensic Computing SIG and the Pedagogic SIG."
