Digital Collections Program - McGill University Libraries

The Digital Library Project has two fundamental goals: the preservation of and the provision of access to the library's and university's unique special collections. These goals will be achieved through the use of a variety of new technologies which capture, store and provide access to images, texts, and sound files. To date the DCP has been actively developing the necessary technical infrastucture to undertake small and large scale projects. Since June 1997, the DCP has completed five major projects and is currently working on a number of others. The DCP falls under the responsibility of the Curator-in-Chief of the Rare Books and Special Collections Division. The project is managed by the Digital Collections Librarian. Thus far the DCP has employed, through its governmental and privately funded summer projects and participation in the McGill University Work Study Program, more than 20 students. The DCP has also benefited from the services of several volunteers. The DCP is located in the Rare Books and Special Collections Division. [self-description] The collections comprise source materials dealing with a broader range of topics of Canadian culture and history.
