"Sie entstand im Gründungsjahr der Gesellschaft für Christlich-Jüdische Zusammenarbeit 1954. Seit 1980 trägt sie den Namen des jüdischen Darmstädter Bürgers Alexander Haas, welcher trotz Verfolgung und KZ-Haft in seine Heimatstadt zurückgekehrt war und am Aufbau der Gesellschaft und ihrer Bibliothek erheblichen Anteil hatte."
