Afro-Louisiana History and Genealogy, 1719-1820
BeschreibungThroughout the Americas, slaves were listed as property and therefore described and inventoried after the master died, when slaves were bought and sold, when they were reported as runaways, and in several other types of documents. Based on these documents the Louisiana Slave Database lists well over 100,000 individual slaves who came to Louisiana between 1719 and 1820. Complete document retrieval information is included in each record. Type of document, name, birthplace, age, gender, racial designation, if the slave was involved in running away or in conspiracies and revolts against slavery and family relationships, skills, illnesses, character, African language group, language of document, and linguistics are some of the fields.
