Subject and thematic gateways provide a means of accessing high-quality historical Internet resources, which are cataloged according to strict bibliographic standards. Clio-online and the partners are involved in a cooperative venture called the
Network Subject Gateways History, which has as its task the construction of a central guide to web-based historical information. Within the Network, Clio-online focuses on Websites for 19th and 20th century, North-German and Prussian history. Important historical topics (e.g. WWI, Educational History, 1848) will receive their own thematic gateways, which will present a vast quantity of specialized information at a glance.
