Display and Navigation

Clio-online is a work in progress with components that extend well beyond the World Wide Web. We do our best to ensure that the quality of this help text aides in navigating the site. If, however, aspects of the project, the website and/or its usage remain unclear, please email clio.redaktion@geschichte.hu-berlin.de with a question or a suggestion.

Clio-online uses two sets of navigation bars: the global navigation menu is located in the top-right of the screen and contains functions such as help, loging, add url, the masthead, and a link to the metasearch-engine. Additional horizontal menus in the screen’s top area, similar to a filing system, refer to the website’s top categories. Each category has an additional submenu below it. When necessary, a third menu-level appears at the left-hand side of the screen to display a sub-category’s further sub-categories. The current path is always displayed above the content. The website as a whole can also be searched using the search window at the top of the right content bar or using the search tab.

The website is optimally viewed with a resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels. A lower resolution necessitates the use of the vertical and horizontal scroll bars.

All Clio-online data is saved in UTF-8-format in order to allow for the presentation of country-specific special characters. To ensure the correct display of text, please set your browser’s character encoding to UTF-8.

Older browsers, such as Netscape 4.7, tend to display some characters incorrectly.

The Clio-online web team tries to support all common internet browsers. Should you come across error messages or problems in displaying pictures, menus or any of our other content, we kindly ask that you inform us so that we can quickly correct the problem. clio.redaktion@geschichte.hu-berlin.de
