HU-Berlin

Humboldt-University of Berlin (HU)

Founded in 1810 following the conception of William of Humboldt,  the Humboldt University  Berlin (HU) is the "mother of all modern universities". With innovative ideas in learning, research and organization, it is carrying forth the reform impulse of its founders. The university library and the multi-media center of the HU participate in the Clio-onlilne network of partners in two senses: first, the university comprises the central part of the technical infrastructure of Clio-online, especially by providing the software on which the Clio-online meta-search engine is based; second, their long experience in the development of procedures and standards for electronic publishing and the employment of the new media in the specialized sciences have been an important guide for the project. Additionaly, these two parts of the university also bring the following databases into the project:

E-Doc server of the Multi-Media Center:

Within the scope of a DFG Project entitled "Dissertations Online," the Humboldt University has developed a sophisticated e-doc server where a diverse range of scholarly documents have found a long-term home (dissertations, conference papers, introductory lectures, electronic periodicals and more). The files are kept in a SGML/XML format and contain an electronic signature. Such a DTD structure enables sophisticated searching according to multiple criteria.
